| JUST PUBLISHED! JACKIE'S NEW BOOK ON STRESS MANAGEMENT
Let Your Body Win: Stress Management Plain & Simple is about how chronic stress, elevated stress that lasts for six months or longer, makes us vulnerable to illness & disease development. Symptoms from diabetes to depression, insomnia to indigestion and heart problems to headaches are common developments from too much stress for too long a period of time. This is the bad news.
The GREAT news is that the more stress you have the more you need to schedule rest away from your stress through stress breaks. Anything from a few seconds of deep breathing to a good night's sleep to volunteering help to mitigate the damage of the stress response.
Jackie uses plain & simple language and presents practical techniques to help you protect your emotional, physical & mental well-being by letting your body win. It's really pretty simple!

Here's what people are saying about Jackie's newly published book
| Library Journal
Ferguson, Jacquelyn. Let Your Body Win: Stress Management Plain & Simple. Whole Person. Sept. 2009. c.132p. ISBN 978-1-57025-232-7. pap. $16.95.
Many people know they should stop and smell the roses but don't. (This) author wants to help readers make it happen. Community counselor Ferguson's approach involves creating an awareness of situations that trigger cortisol, the fight/flight hormone, and learning how to react healthfully to them. She provides self-assessment tools and suggests stress-reduction activities that are geared toward those who hate exercise, tend toward introversion, or have been in a rut. For a quick and easy guide to stress management, Ferguson is the ticket.

“I LOVED IT!!! You did an outstanding job....... IT WILL BE A HIT!!!! You have made it simple, easy to read, and doable. No excuses!!!! I loved the motor home story/analogy - stress has a beginning, middle, and end. When you learn to "tap the brakes" early - you manage stress! The Stress Breaks are easy to follow one, two, three, applications that gives us control, options, and success." Ava Fluty, ND, MEd., CNHP

Let Your Body Win has a clear and simple message. Our health is largely in our control with low-cost, no-cost solutions. Most of us know steps that we need to take to stay more fit, happy, and energetic; but this is the first book to so elegantly explain the compelling "why." If cortisol is the enemy, we now have strategies to go after it! I loved the conversational tone and everyday examples used by Ms. Ferguson. The reader feels that it's like having a private, sit-down session with the author. I'm sharing this with everyone in my family. Anne Schroeder, October 2009
| The remarkable thing about " Let Your Body Win" is that it starts out with the basic idea that we are actually in control of our bodies! For example, the very act of raising one's hand and saying "I choose to send cortisol coursing through my system" places the onus of responsibility exactly where it should ... be - with each one of us ... If the reader really wants to understand the nature of the problem, and ... has the discipline to do some simple and interesting exercises, he or she can make a profound difference in overall health and in combating the myriad harmful effects of cortisol.
I found this book so refreshing in its approach to stress management. Rarely have I read a book this concise, with multiple ways to effectively reduce not only the usual stress of daily living, but also the more severe kinds of stress that can sometimes paralyze our efforts to succeed. Ms. Ferguson presents (many) practical suggestions, ideas, and exercises, as well as references to a growing body of research and literature so that the reader, when motivated, can become the expert as well. She makes it clear that with regard to stress, there need be no more victims, only volunteers.
As a licensed clinical social worker in private practice for many years, I sincerely recommend this small, perfectly understandable, powerful book. ... This slim and effective book will help many people resolve long standing issues in a short period of time. Both as a reference for all mental health professionals, and as a practical how-to book for the average reader, this is well worth reading and following. Sheila Denner, October, 2009

Help for stress that you can easily understand As a person who has suffered with depession and anxiety all of my life, I found the information and examples came very close to home.
Let Your Body Win was a big surprise to me! Such an easy to read book combining facts with solutions to stress relief that even I can do. Learning what cortisol is and how it affects my body is something I wished I had learned years ago. Common sense tells us that when we feel anxious something is happening and Jackie explains this in a way that we can all understand.
Even though I breathe everyday I never realized I wasn't really getting any deep breaths in and especially when I found myself
I read each chapter and truly thought about what she said. I was really letting stress control my reactions to many situations. Elaine Ferguson, October 2009

I was like the example in her book where she tells you to take a deep breath and if you feel a little lightheaded or dizzy then you need to do this more. And I need to do just that! So easy and yet I didn't realize I wasn't really breathing. Now I am the one telling others to take a deep breath!
In this stressful world we live in this book could be a handbook for everyone and it is just as the title says, Plain and Simple. Thank you, Jackie, for helping with the stress in my life! Martha Smith, October 2009

Biodots How stressed are you? Check your biodot color and what it means on the slide to the right. The biodot measures skin temperature and shows "cooler" colors as you become more stressed indicating that the stress response, the fight/flight, is operating and drawing blood away from your hands.
Directions Place your biodot in the "web" between your thumb and index finger. Wait for a couple of minuts. Don't worry if yours turns cooler when you're focused and very occupied. This can be very normal. For instance, when I conduct a workshop or give a speech my biodot turns black - absolutely black! But to be a public speaker one needs to be on the hyper-energy side. Within ten minutes after a presentation my biodot begins to turn to the bluer colors, little by little.
Observe when yours changes color and notice what's going on. This will indicate to you what is stressing you (not always a negative thing) and what relaxes you.
